Lemons and money

I'm starting to wonder about us.  Seems like no matter how frugal we try to be, whenever we purchase something we end up with lemons instead.  Is it just us?  3 years ago we bought a new heating system.  The house that we bought was Doug's grandmother's and had electric heat in the living room and dining room, leaving the rest of the house without any heat.  We put a space heater in the nursery and kept the heat settings in the house at 60.  We were freezing all the time from the house not being a consistent temperature throughout it.  The bill ran us about $650 a month.  It was awful.  So we decided to get a wood burning boiler and put in in-floor heat.  Doug did a lot of looking around at different makes and models.  We chose an indoor model and installed it in our basement.  This is our third winter with it and we have had countless chimney fire scares, and pieces breaking on the thing.  The company doesn't care that its still covered under warranty, they say its our problem.  So after another piece breaking 2 weeks ago, we seriously contemplated throwing it out the door.  We called a company that Doug is very interested in purchasing a new stove from and asked them if they would be willing to take our stove in on trade in.  They came and looked at it.  Although they were not interested they did comment on how its hooked up to our hot water for the house.  We are always running out and they said that shouldn't be happening.  So they explained how it should be hooked up.  Doug went and got all the pieces to change it around.  In the process we found out that the minerals and such in our VERY hard water had settled and was blocking up a pipe to the hot water tank.  Now not only do we have a piece of junk for a heating system and no money to replace it, but we also need a $400 water softener!  Doug got a piece to fix the stove and as of right now we are back loving it.  However this has happened in the past and within a month we have serious issues again.  We will see.  We did order the water softener and will be picking it up on Thursday.  Then yesterday, the desktop computer decided to go up.  Doug is pretty sure the hard drive is shot.  Its a Mac and we have only had it for 3 years.  I told him thats not speaking very well for Macs and he said, "well, like everything else, I can almost guarantee that we bought a lemon."  Grrrr.  Why is it as soon as I'm able to stash a little bit of money, something big goes up on us and a whole lot more goes back out.  Sometimes, I don't care what anyone says, I really wish we hadn't bought but were renting instead.  I know "its a waste of money", but at least all this stuff would be someone else's responsibility.  LOL  Oh well, I guess this is where trusting in God comes into play.  I know sometimes we get "too comfortable" and then we take our eyes off Him and all he does for us.  When stuff like this happens we have no choice but to put our total focus back on Him.  When you look at it that way its a blessing in disguise.  Ok, I'm done rambling now!

Oh a good note...its Doug's week off again.  My goal this week is to get pictures of the girls in the barn feeding the cows.  They are soo cute!

We kind of have similar problems, but it isn't generally regarding stuff that we've bought, so much as money in general. I really agree with the final words you wrote on the subject - I have ALWAYS believed that its God's way of letting us know that we still need to be diligently trusting him for everything... especially since it always works out in ways that we'd never expect! Sorry about your troubles, *sigh* I hope the water softener fixes everything forever!

And I can't WAIT to see pics of the girls feeding their friends!

Ick!! I hope that you get things figured out quickly and that it fixes things for a nice long time(like forever!). Good luck with it!

It's in the shop...They havn't had a chance to look at it yet. I was worried that we spent all this money on a mac and then they crash this soon. But he told me that the hard drive is just about the only thing in the Macs that Mac doesn't make. So they can last 2 seconds or 20 years.

I can TOTALLY relate. Our furance went up right before Christmas. $2500 we weren't planning on spending, nor did we even have it.

Now our car has been in and out of the shop since mid-January.

The list goes on.....Two steps forward, one step back.
