As homeschoolers, we are required by the State of NY to teach fire safety. Of course we could just teach it at home, but what fun is that? Doug LOVES to teach fire safety to kids, so he took a personal day and recruited the help of another fire fighter in the company to help. We did it on a Friday, so Lucas wasn't able to join us but all I could think of the whole time is how much he would have loved it!
Checking out the trucks beforehand...
And inspecting the tires...
Such a little mommy :)
So sweet!
The other fire fighter's little boy, Carter
Everyone is here...we can start!
Two years ago when we did this, I think 40 kids or close to around there showed up.
It was a little bit tough to keep up with that many at once so this crowd was a little nicer. We were able to do more with them than we could last time.
Doug all dressed up...
There is something about this picture I just love...
Anyhow - moving on!
The brave kids :) Madalyn is in there somewhere - see if you can find her ;)
Doug told the kids in the beginning of the class that he had a special surprise for whoever asked the most questions. Marissa's good friend Taylor got the prize but she "graciously" passed it onto Marissa :)
Marissa is finding out what her "surprise" is....
Doug asked for volunteers to help torture poor Marissa!
Strapping her down...
Then they flipped her over to show the kids that when you are on one of these, you aren't going anywhere. Marissa thought it was so cool!
All done!
After that they released the kids to go climb on the trucks and explore.
Then we headed outside to let the kids hold a "charged" hose.
They were a little nervous about this, but after a couple "brave" kids went, the line filled right up! Doug let them wear his coat so they could get a "real" experience :)
Marissa running the hose...
Madalyn's turn...
So cute!
Even the little squirts went :) They didn't fit in the coat too well though so we left that part out!
Then Doug ran the deck gun. That was probably the best part. Even the adults got a kick out of that. I have never seen that run before so it was fun!
Thanks Turin Vol. Fire Company for hosting the homeschoolers!
And thank you Doug and Ryan for donating your time!
